She didn't give a reason, but people are assuming it has to do with the antis she's been hounded by since referring to Taiwan as Taiwan when going over analytics in a stream. I'm sad to see her go, she was never my favorite but I liked some of her stuff and she's a big part of hololive. However, I just do not get the insane level of hatred towards China and communism these reddit weebs are just spilling everywhere. Do they honestly think Xi has a list like "1. genocide 2. bully Vtuber"? I am just so tired of the sinophobia in internet cultures. I'm tired of reactionary weebs. I'm tired of people saying they "don't want political shows/games/streamers/whatever" but want to just spread the most fascist takes possible. Sorry if this is barely comprehensible. I'm tired, sad, and angry. I love anime and Vtubers, but why are so many of the people who watch it just so incredibly awful?

How do they manage to be media obsessed and non-critical? I'm not joking, I do not understand how so many people can live and breath certain media and not try to dissect it and explore it at anything but face value. I've spent my whole life fixating on and obsessing over movies, shows, books, manga, etc., but I've been analyzing it since I was 12. How do they grow up and never have a conscious thought?
Because many people really do indulge in media consumption as a form of escapism, they just want to turn their brain off and consume. When something forces them to confront unpleasant realities or things that conflict with their own worldview they get angry.
If I were to guess, it's cause the shitty outdated education system incentivizes people to unquestioningly pull information from "trusted" or "reputable" sources and is just absolute trash at incentivizing people to develop critical/logical thinking skills in general. Why bother spending extra time to do DD on learning/research material when you can get perfectly passable or even great grades without it and have a million other things you'd rather be spending time on?
Also I don't think media literacy is really taught in school except as part of optional courses.
In China there exists a similar percentage who are insufferable chuds, except there are a lot more of them because of how many people exist in China. Coco bailed out her new coworker who made a mistake by repeating it to take the heat off the newbie but it really made the Chinese chuds very angry. American Chuds don’t like the Chinese Chuds so they try to out chud each to see who can be the chuddiest.
The antis from the few times I've seen them popping about have the same vibe as the dumb chuds that make accounts here to try and bug us, difference of course is the population difference in this community and the hololive community.

Don't think I ever went directly to 4chan before, only saw screenshots. Seeing the real things full on was something, that was just terrible. Just absolutely terrible. I feel sick having watched the same content as these people.
It's just people being parasocial and getting attached to media personalities, like how people get upset when a late night talk show host quits or when a podcast or youtube channel breaks up. They get used to hanging out with their fake friends and when that gets taken away it's like they're 8 and their best friend is moving away.
With vtubers you also have them retiring their personas entirely which adds a sense of finality which you don't otherwise really get unless someone dies
I think part of it is that unlike normal celebrity, entertainer or whatever, when a vtuber calling it quit, the character their fan like so much just basically die, no more content, online presence or anything at all, gone forever.
Vtubers are kind of an emotional crutch for a lot of people, someone easy to hang out with and get to know without having to really jump through the hoops of a real relationship. If someone is a shut-in or hasn't left their house in the last year, or just doesn't have a lot going on in their life, this can be their main sort of interaction. This is not very good, but I honestly prefer they obsess over Vtubers than become the worst kind of incel. I am not at all trying to be insulting(and am in fact calling myself out) when I say that 2 of the most popular Vtubers, Watame and Pekora, are both trained as kindergarten teachers and this explains why their fans like them. So yeah, it's like a friend is just kinda leaving for forever. Yes, they need more real friends.
I guess the ephemeral nature of vtubers is also somewhat unusual in the Western content creator paradigm where people typically never log off- I can think of a bunch of content creators who have been pumping out stuff and cultivating their audiences for over a decade now and in some cases since before the first Obama administration.

That being said I think she's the one who made the decision to leave, at least according to the sentiment on the Hololive subreddit and what the other Hololive members have said
She has definitely made the decision, based upon what she and Covercorp have said. However, that is not the only controversy. She has a very crass sense of humor and enjoys getting other members to say lewd or mature things. Not saying that's the worst thing ever, just that it has been somewhat controversial.
For sure she does go further with the crass humor then the others.
Because the CPC invested in Reddit through one of their front companies. 10% IIRC. So that gives them leverage, and Reddit is nothing if not censorship-happy.
Does the CPC not own a substantial stake in Reddit? And if so how would they not use this for their own purposes? Reddit is far from Aaron Schwartz’ view of "I think all censorship should be deplored. My position is that bits are not a bug".

Tencent is in bed with the CPC. Its Wechat and QQ platforms routinely block anything critical and they have collaborated with the Publicity Department of the CPC and the People's Daily to develop "patriotic games."

To add to what the other user said, that kind of collaboration also exists with movies. The DoD will let filmmakers use military equipment, but the DoD gets to control the script.

To give some context on just how wrong you are, Tencent, owns a small share of Reddit, think estimated value is 5-10% of Reddit. Who is the majority shareholder of Tencent, the CCP/CPC? No, it's a South African company called Naspers. By your logic, it is South Africa who has leverage over Reddit, not the CPC/CCP
10% is a lot, enough for influence. Nobody said it was the majority.
But the largest shareholder of Tencent is not the Chinese Communist Party, it is a South African company called Naspers, with an estimated 28-31% share in Tencent. So claiming Reddit is censoring anti China news because of Tencent investment makes little sense, because neither the Chinese government or Chinese companies are the largest shareholders of Tencent. Also anti China news constantly hits the top of r/all, so if they are trying to censor anything anti China (very unlikely) they're doing a completely terrible job.
