      That is the main reason my aunt gives for her "I'm not racist, buuuuuut..." bullshit. The catch is that she didn't even get mugged, she just got really scared this one time in 1979 so that's how she justifies it in her head.

          It's really worth it if you can get those people to explain themselves, like really get down to the bottom of it. It's always some really thin nonsense like that. It's a really bad idea to get into the business of discounting someone's trauma, but that's just the thing, I have yet to meet one of these people who has experienced any. All I find is blind fear, the people who have dealt with actual trauma don't usually turn into weird bigots because of it.
