Korean cinema has really seemed to break through in the US since Parasite. I will say I am not very exposed to Korean culture outside of what makes it over the Pacific to bleed into US culture. Which in my opinion makes it all the more impressive that two anti-capitalist Korean productions became international sensations after exploding in the US.

Crypto has been tied to the first for a while now. It's the only reason it's worth anything. Also the reason or needs to be do energy intensive, it's literally petro-dollar 2.0. Only this time instead of being backed by car consumption, it's backed by something that can't even be remotely linked to human enterprise.
Almost all of crypto's value comes from speculation, and I don't think that libertarians who truly believe in the project of decentralized currency are the majority stakeholders. I think if there's a market crash big firms that hold crypto will dump it, trashing the price, and then look to buy it back up at the lower price, the same way they do other commodities/stocks during a crash.
I could be wrong and the fundamental differences between crypto and other commodities could mean that it really is crash proof.

Started with Oldboy actually. US distributors started gobbling up rights to Korean movies after that and invested in their directors which culminated in the Oscar win for Parasite.
I kept seeing memes about this show so I figured I'd give the first episode a try just to see what it was about and as soon as I finished, I came here to see if anyone was talking about it. Pretty fucking good so far, I gotta say. When I first put it on I wasn't expecting such a sharp anti-capitalist message but I'm very pleasantly surprised.
Maybe I am just looking for it but I feel like every piece of korean media I see is about it being a hyper capitlaist hellscape.
I mean it would make sense, they're right on the border of a non-capitalist (marxist) experiment with which they share much of their cultural heritage with.
Korea is a hyper-competitive society that's also very rigid because for a long time, the economy was dominated by a handful of conglomerates and performance in life was heavily tied to school exams. It's not strictly "capitalist" competition because it's not leaving people to the forces of the market per se, but there is a real "survival of the fittest" mindset when it comes to shit like school exams because of the idea that it has such an effect on your future. Two years of mandatory military service for men doesn't help things.
