glad we have some posts like this to counter the "site is dying/dead/never actually was alive" alarms that get rung here sometimes

Those posts are a self-fulfilling prophecy if they happen enough. It’s weird how propagandized we are that growth is NECESSARY or you will PERISH. Nah, we’ve been hovering around the same daily active user count for like 6 months with a very slight upward tick. It would be nice to grow, but it’s by no means necessary for continued operations.

Also, communities can definitely get way too big - I don't use the discord, or indeed the trashfuture discord, because things move so fast you can't have an actual conversation. Obviously, forums are a lot more resilient to that but it's still a thing - no fun when logging off for half a day means fifty posts have been made and pushed off the front page.

Aka every time an old chapo head says "I remember chapo when it was cool, and that's before all you libs showed up"

Nah, it always sucked. I'm talking about communities becoming so busy it actually becomes difficult to engage with them meaningfully.

I think that the appearance of fewer upbears on all the top posts is due to c/main no longer existing. There isn't any less VOTEing going on, it's just spread out amongst more comms and posts, which is a really good thing.
