Doing a democratic centralism this one time

    Subtitles.

I normally really don't like subtitles, but the English voices were just not good. It was like 2 people just reading. The opening scene in Korean gave them so much more stress in their voices, I switched to subs and never looked back.

It's actually astonishing to me that anyone watches dubs, at least of live action stuff

Subtitles obv, the actors are way too good to pass up. Apparently the english subs from netflix are pretty bad, so it may be worth it to wait until someone has taken the time to do a better translation.

The subs are fine, but they could be better.

        spoiler

They remove the swearing and other class-indicators from the long-haired girl whose supposed to be intelligent, but uneducated.

Likewise, when the old guy says "We share everything, even marbles", he's actually saying "There's no property between us"

They did great localizing games like Red Light Green light and Honey crisp though

They're dubbing live action shows too? :what:

I'm trying to imagine an alternate universe where I grew up watching every movie and TV show dubbed in Finnish by like 5 actors and I shudder in terror

I never watch anything dubbed. I hate it IDC if it's an animated show or a real life person show. I cannot stand them. Subtitles and the natural voices the show was originally made with. Subtitles are also often more accurate to what is being said than dubs as well.

I watched Jojo's subbed but the dub seems pretty good from clips I've seen on YouTube, at least for parts three and four.

Also just a funny thing that I remembered, the first anime I ever watched was attack on Titan and the main character's dub is goddamn horrendous. Idk how I could enjoy that, he was so fuckin whiny lol

Cowboy Bebop and both FMAs are a few of the exceptions to terrible dubs but even then if you watch the subs vs the dubs the actual meaning of some of the conversations get skewed in order to fit the cultural differences. It's hard to explain. I've also just gotten so accustomed to subtitles and natural voice actors I end up watching the subs regardless. Bebop and FMA I have re-watched in both. Also the old Slayers animes had decent dubs vs subs too.

Subs are pretty good. They get the sentiment right, but there's a lot of idioms or phrasing they just didn't bother with.
