I feel that's a problem for a lot of musicians that did a lot of foundational work back in the day. Peeps like us who were born after they blew everybody's minds can only understand their importance in a very abstract manner bc we've all grown up with tons of artists influenced by them, so all the stuff they came up with (or at least helped popularize) appears mundane and boring.
Same for Hendrix. Back in the day, technicians at shows went up to him and were all like "sorry, dude, we just couldn't get rid of all the feedback" because the way he used his guitar was so novel back then. They just didn't get what he was doing. Now almost every guitarist, and definitely every guitarist who plays distorted in any way, has a tone that's at least indirectly influenced by Hendrix and that means when i listen to his songs, they can never have the same impact on me they had on boomers who already were fans of his music in the 60s. They just sound like average rock, but back then, that shit was jawdropping, like listening to Tom Morello making his guitar sound like an angry robot.
Saying you like the Beatles is like saying you like bread and milk.
They're not bad, but they're basically the template for most of the pop bands that came after.
I like temporary secretary and the rest of McCartney 2 unironically wh at does that say about me
