I don't get it. "Let's go Brandon" is the equivalent of a silly middle school taunt.

They're very insular and dont have a lot of shared cultural touchstones besides high school and football

I know I’d get downvoted for this (if we had downvotes) but ‘let’s go Brandon’ is hilarious, clever, and totally something we’d do.

It’s more refined and nuanced than the previous dog whistling of ‘frens’, because the encoding isn’t one of their choosing. Rather, it was one forced upon them. The media took an expression of mass discontent and blatantly sanitised it on air. The response has been to embrace the sanitisation, but encode it with the meaning of the original discontent.

It’s a subversion of a subversion. A re-vulargising of a sanitisation. It reiterates the initial message in a manner that’s formalistically sanitised. In doing so, it becomes acceptable to air in the media. And yet, because the sanitised message is incoherent without the knowledge of the initial message, it winks at allies, beckons to the clueless, and pulls the finger at those in power.

Does the Cuban government make dumb grifter merch and ship it into the US via some unmarked warehouse in Mexico or Bermuda or whatever to avoid the embargo? Because if not, perhaps they should. :che-cigar:

I think North Korea might produce stuff in textile factories and stuff that's sold under other countries' names, but I'm not 100% on that.

Some race car driver who won, the reporter claimed that the clear crowd chants of "Fuck Joe Biden" during his victory speech were "Let's Go Brandon" because they were so loud that it drowned out her voice and had to say something.

Well, I mean, if you only knew one joke for years, and finally discovered another joke, you'd be excited too.

Americans are an infantilized people, generally.

I think it's possible, even likely, that most peoples are like this. At least in the West. Or maybe just the anglosphere. But I only have direct experience of America.

Same as with Pepe and the ok sign, I suspect: ppl like in-group codes/inside jokes/call-signs by which they can recognize one another. There might be some deeply religious people who are maybe irked by saying "fuck" out loud, although I'd bet they're a minority and that's not the reason.

I'd say pepe and ok sign originated separate from the mainstream culture at large seeing how they're from the 4chan fringe but slowly trickled into parts of the mainstream whereas lets go Brandon originates from the mainstream and rapidly flooded from there to all corners.

That's true. I know that Pepe wasn't meant as a hate symbol at all. With Brandon, it seems like a kind of appropriation that happened with the word "queer" (functionally, not saying it's the same), like "Oh yeah, you tried to turn 'Fuck Biden' into 'Let's go Brandon'? Fine, we'll use yours but will mean what we mean when we say it."

I mean the original story of lets go Brandon is equally as boring as the hogs that chant it. It came from a football game where they got "fuck Joe biden" going as a chant and CNN basically said "boy this was a swell game, you can tell because everyone's saying let's go brandon" with 'fuck Joe biden' literally in the background.

The hogs found it funny and they now squeal "lets go brandon" to own CNN and the libs.

They think they're being clever. 130 million Nazis put their heads together to come up with a Joke and this is the result of that effort. This is the best they've got.

It's because so many people are freaking out about it. Even leftists I know are letting it live rent-free tbh. The trump crowd wants people to say 'omg you're so immature' so that they can post the "yes" chad wojack to own them
