These are about 250% the prince of regular seats, so if you go from SH to SZ or something it's incredibly expensive (flying is cheaper) but if it's a short distance say 80kms or 20 minutes, between two nearby cities, it's like $10 USD, half the price of a taxi for that distance, so send me to reeducation camp or whatever but yes I've tried it once for fun. They still give you a box of treats (crab roe flavor sunflower seeds, a tiny pastry, an airplane meal-esque bread roll, etc) no matter the distance.

As of 2020, average wages in China increased to 97,379 yuan from 37,147 yuan in 2010.

that first number is about $15,379

for comparison the US number for 2020 is $35,977

their median wage will pass the US in under 15 years I think

Isn't a lot of their manufacturing advantage still cheap labor? Won't the manufacturing leave if wages reach that high? Or are they hoping the economy will transition to more service oriented jobs by then? Not really knowledgable on the manufacturing there, just wondering.

China does keep its currency deliberately cheap by buying US government bonds.

By now most of the manufacturing advantage is expertise and network effect. If you're in China you can get specialized parts in under a day by literally showing up to the factory and asking for a one off, which saves a lot of money, and you save on shipping and can iterate faster, and you can find skilled workers for literally anything in a week or two. So even if you're paying 2x as much for labour you still end up saving massive amounts of money.

Oh wow that's interesting. I kind of figured at this point something like that was going on. How'd you learn this stuff? Any good articles or books to read?

If you can stomach listening to Tim Cook, he talks about that quite a bit in this interview. About 9 minutes in is the most relevant portion.

The social relations between classes stay the same regardless of the words used.

China is doing a capitalism to increase productive forces before pushing the socialism button in ~2050, it's perfectly valid to not like the capitalist bullshit that comes along with that strategy

okay but having cushy chairs on trains isn’t inherently a class issue. In this case I’d say it is, but yknow.

The Nürnberg area has (or had) some S-Bahn trains (light rail) that were pulled by GDR made DR-243 electric locomotives and had modernized 80s "X-Wagen" behind it. The seating quality is vastly superior to any other newer trainset and there is also way more leg space etc.

Travelling pretty often on commuter Deutsche Bahn trains, the 1. Class literally only has leather seats. The other difference is that there's a door to the compartment and the 1. Class is almost always completely empty. While some trains are full to the brim at rush hour times, there's like 20 seats and idk how many m2 of floor that is just left empty.

can't like something that I will never find myself using, even if I was given a free ticket, I would probably pass because of all the douche bags that takes these business class rides, not to mention experiencing bourgie service that these rich ghouls expect.
