It's disgusting how many people are defending/justifying the shooter. On a tweet about the guy who attacked the shooter with a skateboard to prevent him from killing more the replies are crawling with shit like "play stupid games win stupid prizes" and "the kid was just defending himself!". Holy shit the black pill is real, tell me that you can read this shit without feeling the urge to line these scumbags up and wall them.

The thing that blows my mind is the fact that there's literally no redeeming factor in the 17 y/o case. Like he illegally had a gun, drove across state lines looking for trouble, killed 2 people and then fled from the police.

He wasn't "defending" himself, his property, he willingly inserted himself into that situation looking for it to go badly.

The people arguing on his behalf are the same people who screech about protesters supposedly being bussed in from out of state to case trouble and then when SOMEONE FROM OUT OF STATE COMES TO CAUSE TROUBLE, they say he was in the right.

depends on the theme, if they are on a wierd theme (not officially supported) then it may not have changed icons. In vanilla lemmy bolts represent the overall hexes (upvotes) a person got minus the downvotes.

ah the app is using a universial ui so it looks the same throughout, meaning it uses the default icons from lemmy that chapos changed when making this site.

Definitely, the current protests really made me understand that America is unreformable, it's through this that I realized that Fascism is not only prevalent in the higher up circles of the capitalists and imperialists but the general populace as well. Everything needs to go.

maybe im alarmist, but this time feels different. every time a black man is killed by a cop, people will try to find ways to justify it of course, thats nothing new or shocking to me, but seeing the right react to this, even mainstream right wing civility hacks are cheering it on. i feel like this event might be bigger than we imagine.

or it will be swept under the rug to everyone except fash who willfeel empowered.

People took the grill pill after Floyd and now they just want to kill all the protestors so they don't have to think about systemic racism

I can't stand that "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" shit. I know there's probably a better-articulated reasoning behind why it's such a fucking shitty phrase, but it just reeks of such condescending dismissiveness.

We should appropriate it and use it whenever there's retaliation when the police murder someone

"wHy aRe tHeY sETTinG tHinGS oN fIRe???"

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes" shrugs

        Or during any revolution.

"Why did they kill the Romanovs?"

“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes”

I hate it because it looks and sounds bad and it's become a reddit-favorite thought-terminating cliché. What, exactly, is a "stupid prize?" A "stupid prize" isn't a thing! I don't lament "oh man, I sure got a stupid prize today!" when something bad happens.

What was wrong with "reap what you sow?"

Not to mention if this script was flipped, they'd be telling the shooter he "played a stupid game and won a stupid prize" for being charged for murdering two people in defense of a gas station or whatever.

I think it's important to understand that this is not new. It's pretty constant. I remember looking at polling data from the 90s and realizing that 20-25% of Americans are basically proud racists, which is a strong indicator that they have openly fascist beliefs across the board.
