shame the rest of the game wasn't quite there
I caught a review of doom 3 randomly on youtube last year and gave it a real try after hearing bad things and only playing it for maybe 5 mins in the past.
It may not be a Doom fan's favorite Doom game but it is a pretty incredible horror kinda game and if I had to pick probably my fav Doom game overall.
And the theme crushes for sure.

As someone whos first experience with the FPS genre was finding Wolfenstein 3D buried in the depths of a library computer in the 90s Doom 3 is criminally underappreciated for what they did with the series.
Doom 3 is fun. Even better with sikkmod if you can run it.
It caught a bad rep at the time of its release as it was a complete genre flip compared to classic Doom and capital g gamers couldn’t physically handle having to switch between a flashlight and gun as if that wasn’t the whole fucking point of a horror shooter.
Imho DOOM 3 isn't terrible.
The early chapters of DOOM 3 are actually a decent horror game. I understand that a lot of fans didn't like the genre change but it was at least a decent attempt at a genre that is very hard to do right.

I liked rummaging for keycodes and audiologs in a spooky horror setting
Also those interactable screens were sick as hell
