I mean is she using it to discuss how Israel more or less tormented and fucked over Ethiopian Jews cuss that'd be good, but tbh she prolly isn't is she :/
yes Israel did that bad thing but this isn't talking about Israel it's talking about Jews. Also those Ethiopian Jews are also Jewish. Plus Jews aren't white, Jews weren't white before there even was a white
Well yeah the concept of white or whiteness is just supremacist bullshit, it's just that I don't understand exactly what she is aiming to state with this tweet. Like of course a supremacist would not see Jews as part of their in group and so not "white enough" or whatever justification they'd use. A more compelling statement would be that Israel itself is a supremacist state that has a specific acceptable type of "Jewish" with all outliers being lesser (then again she'd be lam-posted for that but who gives a fuck).
there's a deep danger to hearing Israel when someone says Jews. Israel was not mentioned once in this exchange. A white supremisist wouldn't see Jews as not white enough a white supremacist would see Jews as not being human
Thing is though I feel it's impossible to remove Israel from the discourse of being Jewish in the American cultural zeitgeist which is fucking tragic, looking at this own podcast ep it seems to be a similar discussion on how the viewpoint of Jewishness has been so deeply wounded by fascistic rhetoric that there has been an artificially created idea of Jewishness that did not exist before (i.e. the diversity of being Jewish in all the various groups that make up such a collective term) which is used by fascist groups as dog whistles or means of reinforcing that term. Sorry if my own points on this are weird, being Jewish in this fuckin country is a weird as hell experience (especially when you got an avid zionist like Fartlow involved).
Whatever side lets them justify another holocaust in a particular argument. I’ve seen antisemites flip around on that because they are not logically consistent with their arguments. That’s part of why it’s a huge “do not entertain this question” topic.
whiteness is a made-up concept in the first place, and one that is mostly used by anglo racists. being "logically consistent on whiteness" is like being logically consistent on geocentrism. maybe it's possible, but i honestly don't give a fuck.
there's a lot of people that are at least sometimes recognized as white, yet have been historically subjected to systematic genocidal exterminaton campaigns. jews are one example, slavs are another, a lot of middle eastern people also count as white yet are one of the most villified groups in europe atm.
what whiteness means is completely different in the US, in europe, in brazil etc. etc.
One time an Indian friend referred to himself as a "white guy" and I was so confused. I thought it was one of those situations where maybe whiteness means different things in different cultures, but then he said he just forgot he was Indian for a second. Whiteness is so fucking dumb.
Long story short, his parents treated him really poorly compared to his golden boy brother and rejecting their culture was his way of rebelling. On top of that, this was in the early 2000s which was a really unfortunate time to be that particular shade of brown in America. Add in an obsession with escapist media, most of which starred white guys, and you get my buddy. Luckily, he has mostly dealt with the internalized racism after some therapy and talking through these issues.
i would agree with you, in that case, that the answer to the question doesn't matter, and i don't think the content of Gray's podcast is an argument that it does.
"Are contemporary Jewish interlocutors who argue that Jews aren't white doubling down on a Nazi classification system and doing "race craft" in a way that's comparable to Black Americans subscribing to the slave owners idea that a drop of Black blood makes you Black? Should we all stop? Or does erasing race create certain risks for historically racialized groups?"
doing a dialectical critique of nazism is nazism lol
This is the only time I will probably ever agree with Eve about something.
This is not a topic BJG should be presenting as an open question. It's a nazi talking point. What the fuck.

these are all aspects to keep in mind here.

They are very strongly in the "no" camp.
Yeah its a super bad look.

Is it even that? Or is it just doing Hot Takes so people like Incest Shapiro and Fartlow will angrily retweet your link?
