After working in care and watching some people just deteriorate for years, I can't say you made the wrong choice. One woman screamed herself to sleep every night for months before she finally passed.
I can't even imagine what it's like if you're actually related to them, or known them for years. My mum has said something similar about just wanting to go after I told her some of the things I've seen.
Hope you're holding up okay.
You did the right thing. My grandfather got lung cancer a couple years back and where we are had recently gotten some degree of right to die (I support the hell out of it). He would be either in a hospital and needing round the clock care to barely exist so he went out on his terms with family around him. You made the right call.
