I agree it's disturbing and a CW is suitable, but if it makes you feel any better I'm pretty sure that's a rubber chicken in the photograph (maybe you already knew that). :meow-hug:

Yeah I knew it was fake (thank god) but even the fact that someone can suggest that doing this to chickens is a good idea makes me feel gross. Human psychopathy scares me. People like that should be put on a list.

At that point it would be far more energy and resource efficient to not eat meat, but the bazinga brains won't accept that even on an economic and environmental basis. They want a future that conspiciously looks like the past but with more treats.

But I'm sure you know that there's so much land that's not suitable to grow cucumbers on, which means my uncle needs to have his goat farm there, and if he's going to make goat cheese he might as well slaughter the goats when they get too old to produce milk, and anyway that's why veganism is impossible and we need to grow massive fields of corn and soy to feed to thousands of giant warehouses full of pigs and cows. Basic ecology.

i don't get how someone can propose something this monstrous, think it's more ethical than factory farming and then be like "yeah i'll still eat meat haha vote with your wallet for more ethical options! :so-true:"

I think they propose it because they expect to "win" the vote of wallets there.

That's the basis of so many "if you don't like (thing) don't buy/use/do/consume (thing), simple" though-terminating cliches. Dissent is dismissed and atomized in favor of the liberal ideology of everything being a market choice no matter what.

This photo was from a vegan art installation. The chicken is not real.

From beasts we scorn as soulless,

    in forest, field, and den,

the cry goes up to witness

    the soullessness of men

The surgery would undoubtedly be a horror show even on a single chicken, at scale it would be a whole horror circus.
