Man, fuck them. Is there a search engine that doesn't try to dictate what you see?

I use ecosia, they seem at least somewhat concerned about privacy and the searches plant trees :quokka-smile:

Maaaaaaybe Brave Search. Otherwise indie-hosted Searx servers.

Edit: Just checked and Fmovies.to works on search.brave.com while it's gone from DDG. Although DDG still lists Nyaa.si (which I thought was the original site and not .se?) and RuTracker, etc.

If I remember the deep lore correctly, nyaa.se was the original, after it went down nyaa.pantsu.moe was the first copy to pop up, then came nyaa.si and a brief culture war between the two. HorribleSubs went to nyaa.si because of some Twitter talk about sexism or something on the part of pantsu, which cemented si as the winner.

      Yandex, the Russian one.

EDIT: yeah nah, it doesn’t work. Not showing the original pirate bay.

The original is thepiratebay.org. You can find knockoff ones even in Google.

What's the difference between the URLs with and without the hyphen? They look like mirrors of each other.

Maybe the hyphen one is a legit mirror that just hasn’t been blocked yet. The point is, the OG isn’t showing up with Yandex, meaning it’s censoring it too (or gets its English language results from Bing like every other non-Google browser).

When I search for "site:thepiratebay.org" on Yandex it gives me several results, unlike duckduckgo. Google gives a few results.

I'm not sure there could ever be a totally neutral search engine given they work based on guessing whether something would be relevant to you, but one that's not being used to sell ads would be far better.
