Young me was LMAO'ing at the Power Rangers reference. Nowadays that sort of thing is pretty routine, but back in the 90's I don't think there were any TV writers younger than 36 years old. Simpsons was great but the fact that the boy's hero is a TV clown shows that they grew up in a different era.
