You figure after so many highly publicized police murders, people would be more aware about calling the cops on people committing no crime

Listening to the police scanner in my city is brain posion. One I specifically remember was, "caller reported a black teen walking down their road with a soda. Thought it was suspicious."

This was like two weeks after I remember the protests starting. Absolutely abhorrent.

On that note, cops are starting to encrypt the scanners so we can't listen in anymore. That's kinda scary

At my former job, I worked with the most insane, truly sociopathic person I've ever met. One day she was outside having a cigarette and commented to a coworker that she was concerned about a "scary guy" outside our plant and she was afraid that he was looking to steal cars or some bullshit. Turns out she was just talking about the guy (black) who loads the trucks. She didn't recognize this guy, who worked at our company for like 5 years (he was a contractor, but still) and he was "scary" because he was black. The shipping manager (big dude) just went off on her in front of all of us and called her a racist piece of shit to her face. It was amazing. My coworkers and I continued to refer to him as "scary guy" and he thought it was hilarious. Good on him for taking it in stride.

Being afraid of anything different is the fabled white suburbanite culture.

They wanted the police to give them a participation badge, a pat on the head, and a "good work, buddy."
