It's so crazy how much ideological astroturfing reddit has and people fall for it. Also lol @ working several jobs for $2400 a month = lower middle class.
any car you can get for 1k and drive off is not gonna be door dash or instacart usable. it's either gonna get you fuck all fuel efficiency or you're leaking so much oil you're offsetting any profit

In my experience, where I live it is not feasible at all... I'm into cars and all I've driven are beaters although not to that extent. I helped my mate buy a car for ~3k and even that took a ton of effort to organize because theres so many people that waste your time. From 0-1000 in particular, every post is actually advertising a down payment or monthly payment. I checked out a car that said 78k miles, whoops they forgot the two! It's 278k miles, haha. I checked craigslist before I posted just out of curiosity and the only car under 1k in 20 miles from me that isnt a straight piped project car, needs transmission /engine work or is a rolling shell is a 98 ram 1500, which fits in with my gas thing. If you're mechanically inclined and willing to churn through a ton of shitty ads, there are absolutely deals out there but the average person cannot spot them.
I didn't mention uber/lyft because I know those have restrictions on years and mileage or whatever.
And I just brought this up because this is something I have experience with and thought was funny. I'm just here to waste time lol
Just adding that if you're in the upper Midwest/New England salt belt the only thing you'll find in that range is 15 years old and the frame is about to turn to dust.
I had a truck that nearly escaped with it's life as it came with me to the desert. That fell through and it returned to the salt belt and was sold off a couple years later.
Yeah, the only way to get a decent car that cheap is to know someone personally who is trying to get rid of one. I sold my Accord to a friend for $500 and it lasted them a year (would have lasted longer, but they never changed the fucking oil). Those aren't deals you find on Auto Trader ™ unless you're financing at an insanely high interest rate.
Indeed, cars like this I hear about trade for around $3-4k.
I don't intend this to be a serious critique of a failing capitalist system. It's really more of a critique about reddit and how much it favors certain lines of propaganda. This person may be 100% honest, but it's still propaganda. However I think it's more likely they're going to build cred as a provertyfinance guru and then gain passive income by selling their story and infomercials. That kind of thing will be very tantalizing right now given the unemployment and developing recession/depression. So yeah, regardless if the specific story is true or not, the fact that this kind of thing exists at all is enough of a critique without getting into the details.
Laughing at dumb reddit posts isn't challenging capital. It's not going to change minds. But this is a comm for making fun of this kind of stuff.
Yea. IDK where you could find a car for $600 that isn't being sold because of problems.
Mechanics can buy them because they have tools and knowledge to do the work themselves, but for an ordinary person it's not feasible.

Lol that's insane. Hey we're not gonna pay you very much but you better provide a nice vehicle if you want to work for us.
Don't forget you need commercial insurance too, which runs you about $200+/month. More if you've been in an accident or have a speeding ticket.
Most people don't have it because it's too expensive, which means most pizza drivers are one accident away from being charged with insurance fraud and losing the $800 they've saved up in 2 years.
