. functionally it’s true but I try to think of myself more like the garden’s coach, and my job is to empower plants, microbes, fungus, birds, critters into making a cooperative ecosystem

Friend and I broke one of my solid oak training swords sparring so hard.

For accurate weight distribution use wood, for actual contact sparring use polypropylene

                at a club, it's polypropylene
wood would be a nightmare for insurance

for everything but sparring we use actual swords

I don't practice HEMA, but I watch HEMA videos and matches and guys like Matt Easton talk about swords. I guess that's incredibly lame.

There isn't a hema gym in my area and it makes me just a little bit sad

HEMA seems so cool. I haven't gotten into it yet, for a number of reasons, but I hope to at some point in my life.

I saw a youtube video once about a woman, I think she was a little over 50, overweight, completely out of shape. And then she decided to do buhurt. And was pretty successful at it for a few years until she felt she had aged out. It was really cool.

I used to conlang a lot. Helped me learn tons about linguistics, which is interesting in and of itself but also made it easier for me to learn new languages. 10/10 hobby, would recommend

Yeah it's a great way to learn about linguistic features and how they work in existing languages! Gender systems in languages always baffled me until I started conlanging and tried to put one in the language I was making.

I practice bird calls to try and get them to respond to me. So far I have pigeons and mourning doves

Still trying to befriend the crows in my neighborhood. They still won't let me come close but they do follow me around sometimes.

Yeah raw spanish peanuts seem to be their favorite.

I've heard about almonds and brazil nuts being good too but I can't afford that shit.

The most important thing health wise I've heard is make sure it's raw and unsalted

        Dammit

And the way I've found to do them is to do like a whistle but with your jaw fully open so you can hit the deeper parts of the call

That's pretty cool. Would love to be able to talk with the neighborhood magpies, they seem like good people.

I SCUBA dive, but not in the tropics or anything, I only like water that is near freezing and dark. Shipwrecks in the great lakes are my favorite

I learned in a pool at a community College, a lot of them have classes a few times a year, no idea what it costs nowadays though. Definitely only do it if you are already a strong swimmer though, and not prone to panic. It is quite possible to give yourself a pressure injury even in 20 feet of water, if you panic underwater
