Average undergrad student loan debt is $36k. Average graduate student loan debt is $91k. This girl is way outside the normal debt load.

So we could have some kind of conversation about how certain schools or students are accruing enormous debts, whether student bankruptcy should be a tool they're afforded, and what a better model of higher education might look like.

Or we could do some weird fucking insult-comic retorts to random people on the internet.

17 year old kids should be allowed to make mistakes. Even if they make the same mistake again at 22. If I'd been allowed to, I would have gone to the wildly unaffordable out of state private school my girlfriend did and that would have set me back at least 200k just for undergrad, nevermind the 250k medical school set me back, which gained a lot of interest at the federal rate of 8.5% both during school and while I was in residency working for minimum wage for years.

Many doctors and lawyers would happily work in public service for peanuts if they didn't have a 2-4k student loan payment each month. Personally I always joke about it being the mortgage for my imaginary house.
