NEW YORK—Proudly declaring that they never thought they’d see the day their vision would finally be realized, streaming service Spotify reportedly celebrated Thursday the platform’s 100th dollar given to artists. “When we launched Spotify in 2008, our mission was to reward artists when customers listened to music, and today, we finally reached three figures in artist payouts,” said Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, posing with a giant check for a $0.00000029 payout to Dua Lipa for her song “Break My Heart” that propelled the world’s musicians past a collective $100 in earnings. “This is an absolute milestone for a musician-oriented platform like Spotify, and confirms what we believed when we started, which is that music-streaming platforms can be a reliable way to help bands and artists earn pennies or even nickels for their work. But this achievement is really about the artists on our platform. Spotify couldn’t have done it without you.” To celebrate the occasion, Spotify also reportedly unveiled a new commemorative playlist of its highest-earning artists, with all proceeds from plays going to Spotify.
been using ubuntu touch on a nexus 5 for a couple of months. recently switched to a nokia n900 + a boomer phone. im just waiting until the pinephone keyboard case comes out then i'll use that with i3 or dwm or w/e
hell yeah I'm planning on switching within the next year or two once it matures slightly and more importantly I hopefully have money to spare on a new phone
dude get yourself a nexus 5, since google stopped supporting them last year they are dirt cheap. i got mine for like 40€. you can flash it with postmarketOS or Ubuntu Touch. Hardware is actually on par with the pinephone, ubports is even slightly faster on the nexus
damn I've gotta check that out, I didn't know they got so cheap now!
edit: and it runs android kit kat out the box, that will be a wonderful blast to the past before I load up linux.
only downside is that it sandboxes bare bones android to talk to the proprietary firmware blobs, this also means that you're stuck on kernel ~3.4
why does that mean you're stuck on kernel 3.4? can it not be upgraded?
correction, it's 4.* actually. the problem is that the closed source firmware in some hardware components talk directly to the kernel, and they assume the same kernel android uses in kitkat. Android is dogshit with keeping their kernel current, which is one of the reasons it is a security nightmare. (obligatory not an expert, talking out of my ass alert)
