I found a community that I thought would be at the very least left of Bernie sanders. There are definitely people who are, but it seems much of the atmosphere there is patsoc shit :yea:

We need an emote of someone eating cereal on their phone while looking shocked.

Reminds me of when I saw some chud say they used to think trans women were men, but then he realized that only a woman would be dumb enough to want to be a woman.

I showed this to a molecular biologist friend and they're still screaming.

I tried but they just yelled something about that not being how DNA methylation works and went back.

We need to send more patsocs outside during subzero weather without clothes so that their offspring become more cold-resistant

Russian Lamarckian genetics, the idea being that physiological changes can be passed on genetically such as giraffes getting long necks from physically stretching. Its use was a factor in the holodomor.

This is actually close to what they thought, they'd plant crops too close together so that the stronger ones would transfer strength to the weak.

There were even some crazy theories merging this with the cosmist blood transfusion guys.

Lysenkoism was utterly unhinged and was a factor well into the 60s. Fucked Russian agricultural production.

I read it as "by taking hormones you become the other sex". it's true in a sense - what we call sex isn't determined by a single feature but by the amalgamation of many and taking hormones does change many of them. but it's hilarious because it's not evolution in any sense of the term. it'd be lysenkoism if our need to transition spontaneously produced the right hormones endogenously.

I was more confused about why a patsoc would support lysenkoism

but anyway to address your point, I don't think Lysenkoism is any wronger than Darwinism.

I think it was used in an inappropriate context, because in agriculture, each plant is given more or less the exact same start, and even if one seed happens to have a favorable start due to its parent having one, it still doesn't matter because nobody should care about "treating all seedlings equally"--you'd have to be a raw vegan fruitarian before reaching that level lmao

However, early genetic determinists (aka darwinists) totally opposed heritability of environmental changes (lysenko/lamarckists), similar to how Lysenko thought environmental heritability was the primary or only form of heritability. Both were wrong.

oh for sure. modern epigenetics is a counter to any notion of strict genetic determinism but tbh you don't even need to go that far - height is only fully heritability when the environment remains constant, for example.

height is also epigenetic. There are studies showing that better protein quality not only makes rats bigger, but makes their offspring who are deprived of the protein bigger as well.

There is probably some kind of "hard genetic limit" up to which this can occur though

I know, I meant that such was visible before the advent of epigenetic understanding. it was plainly visible that people who ate better grew taller, and that taller parents had taller kids even when their family history would suggest that tallness just kind of magically appeared in the family, even if we didn't understand the precise mechanism by which this occurs.

I mean, i'd just go with my own explanation that transitioning is a revolutionary act in which i discard false consciousness (cisnormativity & my upbringing in a masculine gender role imposed on me) and use medical science to adjust unliveable material conditions (the old sexual characteristics of my body) to align with a universal human need (living in a body that matches my gender identity). But if it helps them to treat me like a comrade when they explain the same process with magical Lysenko AT fields or w/e, i guess that's better than them calling me a bourgeois d*generate for wanting to wear these DPRK parade uniforms with the pencil skirts.

The part I don't get is why a "patsoc" (this is just codeword for succdem/liberal/fascist in my mind) cares about lysenkoism.

unless maybe he's a russian patsoc
