    Seriously. Why do we have a society that can immediately genocide after an election? That speaks to such a shitty system where a single vote can do that. There are so many worse problems at play than which racist old man holds the nuclear codes.

        I second @footfaults@hexbear.net 's point: read the Jakarta Method. The most eye-opening thing about that book was how in every country where it happened, the people living here had the same idea "something that is so outrageous can't happen here".

          In Indonesia specifically, the communists were already armed and willing to fight for the liberals’ democracy. They rejected the offer and as a result, the communists were massacred and the country’s fragile democracy was crushed.
