90% of illustrator jobs in the future will be to retouch things like the fingernails and eyes in this pic

Engineers and other STEM bros I've known always scoffed at the idea of their jobs being automated away, but I am starting to think it might be more realistic than not

Still, we're getting a dystopic, capitalist hellscape unless we see some quick changes

I'm pretty sure researchers are using AI to come up with novel new antidotes to poison, but at the same time that mean's they're training an AI to understand how to make novel new poisons.

do you think it would be appropriate to add re-touched DALL-E images with original prompts to one's graphic design portfolio or do you think the industry just isn't ready for that yet

i'd say it depends on where you're applying and for which position. if it's some super snobbish ad agency that takes industry awards way too seriously and you apply for a senior art director position, i definitely wouldn't include that. If it's a bread and butter type of gig, that's a totally different story, and if you're applying for some in-house marketing position, they probably won't mind, either. If it's a specialized retouching gig where you're mostly doing the final stages of an artwork, i absolutely would include it, too.

pls note that i'm not a graphic designer, haven't worked in advertising for a while and have no idea what the market in other countries looks like, or what advertisers and marketers think of dall-e, as i haven't talked about that issue with anybody from the industry that i know. i'm not completely talking out of my ass here, but i'm mostly guessing.

The uncanny valley, but instead of blurring the line between reality and unreality, it blurs the line between “young woman wearing an unlicensed Marx costume from Party City” and “semiprofessional indie film actor sitting in makeup for a period piece”
