is there any way to play Diablo 2 with friends when you pirated the original (i.e. not the remaster, I have LOD) cause you really don't want to give blizzard money

In theory you should be able to run a virtual LAN that tricks it into thinking people on the internet are part of your local network. Then you can just play a LAN game instead of battle. net.

We used to use Hamachi, but I guess that's no longer a great option. I haven't used it, but GameRanger came up on a few lists of good alternatives, so that may do the trick.

Radmin is an alternative to hamachi and tunngle (rip). I do think there's a way to just bypass simulating lan but I can't think of what it was.

You can just expose TCP port 4000 from the computer running the LAN multiplayer session to the Internet and people can connect via your WAN IP.
