I legitimately do miss hefty game documents, spending a day reading the manual to prepare to play the game was a good expirience.
I mean Civ VI does have the ingame Civlopedia, which while not a physical manual is very helpful when playing the game
I’ve been working through the doorstop tome that claims to explain how grand tactician works. Makes me miss the medium sized ones with nice artwork and bits of fluffy lore.

90s games were thirsty af doubling as western hentai, one part was sales (since this was before the big crackdown on video games for sex and violence), the other part is just simple thirst. Another RPG example would be Daggerfall having a lot of pixel titty and ass.
