I love that video of her at whatever convention Q&A panel with LeVar, Gates, Michael, Sir Patrick, and Denise, and she is just completely piss drunk and going the fuck off for like 45 minutes about how women in Hollywood are underpaid while the leading men have "more money than God" (while staring directly at Patrick Stewart), while the rest of the panel look away sheepishly because Marina can't "just be normal" for one meet-and-greet. It was like if a train derailment could be beautiful and poignant. I'm a little surprised that she still got the Picard gig after that unbridled display of divorced aunt energy.

I guess what I'm saying is that I stan a Betazoid slay kween.

Hates McFadden was also probably the most technically proficient person in the cast. She did the choreography in a little known musical called fucking LABYRINTH! She choreographed David Bowie and Muppets. She should have been directing episodes

She didn't write the episode and it's very well directed in spite of that. She made some really interesting camera and lighting choices thst helped it be better than the script deserved. She didn't get to pick what episode she directed, she was put in the rotation and this is what she landed on, thars how TV directing worked back then when they had 3 episodes in production at a time.

Her and Frakes are good friends IRL and he's got some pull. He directed a few Picard episodes.

I mean, Troi is hot don't get me wrong, but she wasn't a bimbo either. She's quite competent in a variety of ways. She captains the fucking ship in one episode, during a crisis no less.

Yeah, she's actually got a pretty great arc on the show. Even becomes a qualified bridge commander because of that episode.

And, honestly, I think a lot of her sex symbol rep in the '90s was because the public wasn't ready to take mental health seriously. Some of her counseling scenes have aged pretty well IMO, and her contribution to the crew was very valuable.

She was kinda both. If they'd been able to keep Denise Crosby as chief security officer, and Patrick Stewart had pulled the plug after Jean Luc went Borg, the show would have been absolutely dripping in Girl Power.

Its a bit of a shame that she, Crusher, and Whoopi Goldberg all had to play "Captain Whisperer" for the majority of the show's run. But it was a huge step up from the original series.

For as much as I admire Gene Roddenberry's utopian vision for Star Trek, that guy had some serious brainworms when it came to women. Many women who worked with him have stories about it. Kate Mulgrew even outright called him a misogynist.

Gene died before Voyager was conceived of. Are you sure you're not thinking of Rick Berman? Chances are Gene Rodennberry and Kate Mulgrew never met.

You're right, Kate Mulgrew never met Roddenberry (although she did call him a misogynist), and I probably shouldn't have included that bit. But Gene Roddenberry being a sexist and a perv behind the scenes is definitely a thing, because there are stories from people who have worked with him. It sucks, because I'm a huge Trekkie. I still enjoy the shows though.

I wish we could see the alternate-universe TNG where Sirtis successfully got the role of Tasha Yar like she originally auditioned for.

It would also be dope just to see her do more diplomacy as Deanna Troi. It always seemed to me like she was relegated to a lie detector for obivous traps, that couldnt be in the episode if the plot called for actual treachery.
