Tonkatsu sauce is just sweeter brown sauce. Soy sauce is worse Worcestershire sauce. Everything is covered in sickly sweet mayo. I'll eat sushi when it's battered and fried.

I've heard this same take from people living in Japan so you're def not the only one.

This is a common gripe from Westoids living in Japan who never bothered to learn the language so they only ever go to the exact same restaurants with pictures on the menu or English menus and order the exact same thing each time because the Kanjis are racist and out to get them.

I knew one guy who complained to me about Japanese food being bland and samey and it turns out that he got all his meals from convenience stores. Like yeah bro, what the fuck did you expect?

This never happened lol. Lived in Japan for 5 years. "British food" literally isn't a recognized cuisine. You don't go to "British" restaurants. What does that even mean? Beans and toast? Crumpets? Yorkshire pudding?

Not necessarily that British food specifically is better but that they get tired of Japanese food quickly because it tends to use a lot of the same ingredients over and over.

Okay well thats different. Your comment sounded like there are Japanese people saying like "damn, I'm getting tired of our incredibly rich cuisine whose history goes back a millennia - wish I had some fuckin mushy peas"
