Hmm, I wonder what it is about these skins that could possibly have made gamers mad?

Minecraft is without doubt the best value for a game I’ve ever played. I payed $20 for it ten years ago, it’s been continually updated, no subscription. I don’t know exactly but at this point I must have a thousand hours played, maybe more. I expect Microsoft will ruin it someday, but for now it’s great.

Don't forget mods. Literally endless replayability. I'll go a year or two without really thinking about it, then suddenly get back into it engrossed.

Whenever that happens we just have to stick to whatever the last good version was and not worry about it. Some PVP players already do that because they don't like the combat changes introduced in 1.9.

Not sure how anyone could POSSIBLY find a way to be mad about new options that they don't have to use, but leave it to Gamers to find a way...

Getting Steve or Alex is currently random (but you can go change it ofc), so they could extend that to this new set.

How about no, we don't need weird dev experiments from the most toxically designed game possible spreading. I like being able to express my gender identity in game and don't need to be assigned male in a video game as well.

I think they're pretty bad for the opposite reason, tbh. It's really lame that in an update (allegedly) about self-expression and representation, there's very little done to actually enable self-expression. Minecraft already had skins, and you could already change them to whatever you want for free (at least on PC). Where are the tails? The animal ears? Different body types aside from the standard and skinny? Heck, a proper in-game avatar would've gone a long way.

It's a low-effort addition to an already barebones update.

I think you can do ears and maybe tails using the armor alpha layer. As far body type - You could probably create a different body shape using the armor alpha layer, though.

...They didn't have bookshelves which hold player written books in vanilla until NOW?

Really? I swear they did, because I used to stuff enchantment books in to them.

I guess that was a mod?

Most things integrated into Minecraft's main line used to be mods, these days. Like how the apiary mod which added bees as passively existing items was usurped by vanilla bees as mobs you can watch collecting nectar.

Vanilla bees do significantly less than apiary mods though.

There's no such thing as white people, it's a made-up ethnicity imagined by people who would otherwise have no culture.
