Wasn't the twitter checkmark originally designated to signify the official account of a celebrity/well-known person, so that people couldn't pretend to be them?

he's trying to commodify it. buy yourself a blue checkmark and people will take you and your dogshit takes seriously

Reminder that libs wanted to do this under Trump. They made a website that would snopes your posts. You could just present a card with a true fact on it and magas had to take you seriously. Can't remember if they charged though.

It was. The social media app so stupid it turned :chairman-daou: back into a revolutionary. (Sort of. Not really. But much less of a lib)

Not sure if he means this will only be open to people that pass the verification process. IE you can't just pay to get a blue check without also already being approved for having one?

I don't have dogshit takes. We will buy back the blue checkmark like Allende bought back property from the landlords and exploiters.

it was originally a way of telling who will be first against the wall when the revolution comes, and under Musk's plan it still will be

Someone's gonna find a way to exchange dirt cheap months of Amazon prime for twitter blue and create 10,000 bot variations of "@RealdonaIdTrunt" and steal a third of the midwests GDP from unsuspecting meemaws and peepaws.

Power to the people (requires a $8 monthly subscription).

LMAO! BlueChecks will also get priority in the Twitter algorithm (will appear on top of comments etc.), so I guess Elon is hoping that lots of cryptoscammers and bots will be willing to buy this in order to gain priority in the algorithm?

It’s super funny to me how seemingly “well-respected” investors treat this man seriously

    Lmfao what an absolute clown

Pretty redundant to introduce a feature that lets you know who on Twitter spends money on dumb shit

They already let you have a special profile pic if you bought an NFT

the BEST part about this is if you pay this fee you get no ads!

    Three years later:

Blue checkmarks are still coming, starting with a limited beta, to be rolled out fully in a year or two. Keep paying that monthly fee!

And the handful of existing blue checkmarks will, inexplicably, manage to catch fire and burn your computer to cinders.

England's current land lords & peasants system for who has and doesn't have food is bullshit.

Power to the people! Food for a fair, free market price!

I bet you could calculate how much twitter needs to earn to be solvent by taking the total number of blue checks and multiplying it by 8 bucks a month

Twitter's loan interest is now up by $800 million a year since the buyout. In 2021 they lost $200 million. So it may lose about $1bn/year.

They have about 200 million active users, so they just need 60% of all people to get a checkmark.

The fact it is not the standard cookie-cutter 2,99/4,99/9,99 etc pricing is telling isn't it?
