God I feel like a dick. I disregard out of hand the usual right wing white bullshit. I just get so fucking fixated on the fake libshit. Bridgerton! Enola Holmes 2! I don't know! fake shit like that!

Why can't liberals see? This is just commodification of their struggle! NOT ALL WOMEN WERE LIBERALS! WOMENS SUFFERAGE WASN'T WON WITH FUCKING APPEALS! PEOPLE OF COLOR WERE HATED AND OPPRESSED BY THE EUROPEANS! IGNORING THESE THINGS ARE LIBERAL WHITEWASHING!

I fucking hate liberalism! I hate the SOULLESS FUCKING MONEY GRABBING FEEL OF THIS! "HEY LOOK WE DID A DIVERSITY! GIVE US YOUR MONEY, WORKING CLASS PEASANT!"

I hate how they turn POC as stand in for white people! No real new stories, just white ones with the fake veil of diversity! JUST TO SERVE MORE FUCKING LIBERALISM AND WHITEWASHING!

YOU AREN'T BEING MORE "ACCEPTING" OR "EGALITARIAN" BY WATCHING THESE, YOURE JUST BEING MORE WHITE! MORE UPPER CLASS! MORE FUCKING LIBERAL! YOU AREN'T HELPING ANYONE! YOU'RE WIPING THEIR VERY REAL STRUGGLE UNDER THE FUCKING RUG BY DOING THIS! FUCK THAT SHIT!

I made the mistake of listening to soviet music while typing this. Also no hate against things like the Owl house, Andor, and stuff that is legitimately good and made in (what I think is) good faith.

But honestly, I think I come down too hard. I realize that due to my white culture upbringing and white class membership, I am liable to think some dumb shit and the brainworms can be there sometimes!

Some of you all watch way too much television and it affects your mental.

I know I said the dad line, but you also just admitted it.

Important to keep in mind that consumption isn't politics. It doesn't matter how fake and stupid TV and movies are, because nothing would be better if they weren't. The good stuff is made to satisfy audiences who want good stuff. The shitty stuff is for audiences who want shitty stuff. It's all part of the same game. Thinking that the media you watch (or don't watch) has anything to do with reality is magical thinking.

The good news is that, because it doesn't matter, you don't have to worry about it. Relax and enjoy the stuff that appeals to you. Ignore the stuff that doesn't. Media representation is a liberal busybox and you don't have to interact with it if you don't want to.

Idk if that makes you an asshole but that's word for word how I feel about Hamilton so I definitely get where you're coming from. I'm definitely an asshole though so maybe?

I have the same feeling about Hamilton, I just don't think my especially indignant rage at stuff like that may be a good thing. Like, I'm passionate, but I could be wrong, you know?

Yeah I think I get what you mean, I'm only half kidding. I know I get frustrated with my lib friends and family for their choice of slop but I generally try to keep it to myself. Art is so personal that I think even the worst piece of shit liberal slop ceases to be only a soulless corporate hack job once someone cobbles together some meaning or emotional resonance in it, at least for that person. The line between criticizing the work and criticizing (even implicitly) someone's experience of the work can get very thin and it doesn't make you the good guy to make someone feel bad about a basically harmless thing they like. But holy shit do the libs try my patience

you're not wrong to be passionate, but this isn't really valuable enough that you should spend your time crusading against it. your passion would be better placed elsewhere

It is far better than the former solution which was to simply pretend that POC/women didn't exist or that they were happy with their position.

At least people don't think that Hamilton is an accurate portrayal of history in the same way that they do about, for example, braveheart.

I read an article about Bridgerton that summarized how I feel about it. Diverse casting in these shows still center around whiteness. A black queen playing someone from the English aristocracy is still white centered. They argued if they want to portray diversity accurately they should make shows or characters where black characters are from Africa.

EXACTLY! Make stories from their culture! Maybe fund some overseas directors! They should make less white stuff where they haphazardly insert some "diverse" message, but actual introduction of good shit. Like the "Woman King" movie. Loved that shit.

You seem to understand that consumption isn't politics, but I'd like to remind you that consumption isn't politics and you should definitely care about this way less.

yeah neither of those things I believe in. I just want them to stop commodifying peoples struggle. I have a personal theory. Commodification= Whitewashing. The more you do it, the more you whitewash.

It's fine. Who cares. Just watch other shit or turn your brain off for that stuff. It's deeply sad to subject yourself to hours of sitting still glued to a screen that you feel you are too smart for. And the screen is not getting any smarter. So dumb yourself down and have a good time or look away
