why would you expect that people would have something more to say than "based" if it weren't used? they would just say they agree or they like it or whatever. the term being used doesn't take away anything. if someone wants to explain an opinion they can just... do that anyway.
For years now I've had the intrusive though of being executed by firing squad and doing the Kid Rock walk up to the post. At least half a dozen times I've burst out laughing in silent moments and had to respond "it's a long story, don't worry about it" when people ask if I'm okay.
