Hello, users of hexbear as of this post anonymous users will no longer be allowed on Hextube no will users be able to create channels, you may use this post to request additional channels. At the moment there is:
https://live.hexbear.net/c/movies
https://live.hexbear.net/c/music
https://live.hexbear.net/c/anime
Users will be required to make a username, in order to prevent impersonation of other users on hextube we are creating a verification system.
You may comment your Hextube username here or send it in a hexbear or matrix(secure) direct message to a moderator or admin.
Abuse of this system in any way will result in a ban from Hexbear and Hextube.
This also serves as a reminder that the Hexbear Code of Conduct must be followed on all Hexbear related services, and any conduct that receives a mod action there will receive on here.
You can contact any hextube mod or a hexbear mod of !movies@hexbear.net !anime@hexbear.net or !music@hexbear.net to reset a hextube password
Honestly this sucks and is going to be a big pain for anyone who misses the transition.
Anyway, I'm me over there too.
username on hextube matches this account, blashork
If we wanted to synchronize hexbear and hextube accounts, is there any estimation of the difficulty?
What's the reason to prevent anonymous users from viewing hextube?
I regularly used to view anonymously when I was feeling antisocial but still wanted to read chat
I've never used matrix, do I need a matrix account to participate there or does federation carry over?
you do need a matrix account:
Element is a messaging app that lets you talk to people over the Matrix protocol.
To get started, check out this link, where you can choose to either download Element for your platform or, if on a computer, open it in a browser.
The instructions that follow are for the desktop application and the web application, but the process is similar on all apps:
Press "Create Account"
We host our own Matrix server, so if you want you can change matrix.org to chapo.chat.
This is completely optional; users who sign up with a matrix.org username can still talk to people with chapo.chat username.
(Note: It is chapo.chat, not hexbear.net. Also, registrations aren't always open on chapo.chat; if they're not, just create an account on matrix.org)
Fill in a username and password
Hit register, and you're done!
You can also use https://github.com/Nheko-Reborn/nheko or
https://matrix.org/ecosystem/clients/cinny/
all clients can be found here: https://matrix.org/ecosystem/clients/
that's a weird reason to do this, considering anyone can make an account on hexbear, post the bear minimum (pun intended) and then make a hextube account and view anything anyway.
this is just a bad idea, linking two different accounts I'd imagine would make for some ability to track from nefarious sources, similar to how triangulation works. input from someone who actually has knowledge about this shit would be appreciated.
admittedly i just want to be able to post as "sailor garbage" or "regular garbage" or whatever the fuck i want my name to be whenever i want to change it. especially since I can't just be garbage anymore because of this stupid lemmy bullshit
how come? seems like a privacy concern, no? i'd like a more satisfactory explanation and justification for this
also, please implement a reset email service on hextube. as of now it's very easy for the tube to confuse password managers and lose passwords with no way to recover it besides asking itsPina.
Last time, I did ask hextube mods and the only answer I got was "idk ask itsPina." itsPina told me I was lucky my DM was even seen. If accounts are mandatory and must be verified then I'd like a better way to ensure they are not lost. This has happened to a lot of people. At least make sure mods know how to do it.
my hextube account is 'ving'
Hexbear username is IzyaKatzmann, the one i used for live.hexbear.net is iamizyakatzmann
