Apparently he regretted sending cringe via US mail as he drew closer to death from colon cancer, at least according to ST Joshi, his biographer. His racism mostly took the form of being last century's equivalent of a terminally online chud poster who never leaves his bedroom.
He basically invented his own racism in parallel to the racism of the society around him, out of his own fears of the unfamiliar.

IIRC, at one point he voted for Socialist Party, because he hated the poor and they promised to eliminate poverty.
