What do you mean, "people"? This isn't the default state of human beings, we HAVE no default state. We're born as helpless sacks of meat which can't even walk or eat without assistance; all of our knowledge and behavior is cultural.

A culture which cannot adapt to a clear and present danger will go extinct, and good riddance.
