ugh this made me sick. The Legal Agreement, the Deed of Ownership are all sacrosanct and more important that letting your fucking kids live on the street.

If Mr Landlord is so fucking generous why's he kept the deed and foisted a rule to ensure this goddamn outcome?

I honestly feel that reddit is more filled with wannabe techbros, failsons, faildaughters and rental leeches. I always get the vibe the worst kind of people post actively on reddit for affirmation and engagement within an anonymous space that has very little oversight. There are exceptions of course, certain fandom reddits are nice and all, but I truly feel reddit is where midling banal evil or inept individuals go to exist outside of whatever social environment they have within work and likely little else.

This is correct. Go on any tech-hobbyist subreddit and half the posts are objectively wrong or bad advice regarding anything technical. Maybe techbros lurk or something, but they're definitely not actually posting much.

Hacker news is such a weird place. Maybe it's because I don't go on it enough but it seems like everybody there has absolutely no personality

Every comment seems so devoid of life and energy, regardless of what opinion or statement it holds

                hackernews personalities:

                • irrelevant technical nitpick, usually about the website or title rather than the contents(60%)

                • irrelevant technical soapbox (traditionally ~40%, but these are increasingly being replaced by the even worse irrelevant political soapboxers)

                • actual hacker in the old-school sense / artist who does things with code (0.1%)

                • notable industry expert with long career who showed up in the comments because their work was being discussed (0.1%)

It doesn't even make sense. Is the mother not allowed to remarry in this house? It seemed like it was just a rule to prevent her from subletting it or renting out a room or something. If it was specifically an anti-Steve rule then Adam should have been clearer about that and not been a little legalese soy boy.

what a shitshow. if it were me as the mom, i would force the landleech to evict me so my daughter could see how "generous" he is. expose it all, right there. what matters more: humiliating steve and your sister and your mother for daring to help each other in crisis, or continued servitude in the landleech's cruel fiefdom?

then, between my fixed income and my daughter+steve, i would try to find a place we could all inhabit. and if my other daughter chose to stay with the landleech after that, we'd be all done. it's not like there's a way back from choosing that evil fuck.

but if she correctly recognized what a sociopath he was, i would help her leave him and pull every string i had to get an absolute shark-eyed law demon to take his ass to the fucking cleaners in divorce court. liquidate whatever we got so we could all live communally.

Idk this reads like a drama TV show, I think OPs decision to try and not let Adam find out was the best idea by far for now

I think illegally squatting next is the move, especially since it sounds like she has a signed lease of 1 dollar per month

yeah sure. go for some amicable compromise where there are opportunities to learn and grow for the entire family. but, conceptually, it's good to have a calculated nuclear option in the back pocket, ready to execute. come up with a checklist of steps and refer to it as something cool, like the Argus Protocol.

The problem with that plan is that it involves homelessness also I bet Adam has more ability to hire a divorce lawyer than his wife

Anybody saying that someone should be forced to experience homelessness as some kind of "learning experience" should themselves be forced to experience it so they understand the full weight of what they are saying.

They were quick to not just assume, but insist that Steve is a deadbeat loser and always was who doesn't want to get another job. It's like the moment they heard about Adam and his 14 properties the :so-true: switch in their brains immediately flipped. You can take the redditor out of their boots but you can't take the boots out of the redditor

frankly I am shocked by the disrespect Adam has for the matriarch of his family. If I had even suggested such a restriction on an elderly relative of mine I would be ostracised by my family and would deserve it

That and the situation is so stark and without nuance. "One daughter has a rich husband who owns my house and the other has a slacker husband who can't pay the bills. Should I defy societal expectations of hetero men financially providing for their wives and let the second daughter move in with me?" is what this post wants to say. AITA has always been one of those subs people love to post fake stories in for outrage/karma.

I read the post before looking at the comments and thought everyone but a few bootlickers would support what the father was doing, but most people are supporting the landlord. How the fuck can anyone say you should prioritize keeping some pointless agreement over making sure your own daughter is not homeless???

So, lemme get this straight. Scumfuck landleech gives his mother-in-law an Offer She Can't Refuse with clauses to massively outsize his influence over the family.

He rehoused MIL into a new situation that gives him insane leverage over his wife as he can arbitrarily decide to make her mother homeless at whim, and ensured that there would be no family safety net for his Sister-in-law and her husband out of spite. Even the concept of "handing over control of the finances" to his wife seems manipulative as shit as he really isn't doing shit managing the rest that would prevent him from checking up on it, so it's just there as a trap for his wife in case she decides to be sympathetic so he can pull the plug and make her feel guilty for giving one iota of a fuck about her own family.

    • usernamesaredifficul [he/him]
      ·

Yeah I can't see why he wouldn't just give her the house. Also I can't think of a single reason other than being scared of Adam's leverage over her mother that Adam's wife would object to her sister being cared for by their mother

fuck r*dditors have no consistent political or ethical framework

i was gonna post this the other day and forgot, from the same sub a cop (or someone trolling as one) getting unanimously roasted by everyone specifically for being a cop and saying they have "a strong moral code", rather than whatever the specific aita thing was. had me thinking "huh maybe r*ddit is slightly less of a cesspit these days" but clearly that was hopelessly naive
