How does one go from "I sit next to you in science lab and we have a good conversation while working" to actually hanging out.

I am trying my best to make at least one friend this semester but I never end up talking to anyone outside of class. Unfortunately, I'm a big nerd who has never been the one to initiate a friendship so I'm trying to learn.

Gotta just straight up ask. Remember that everyone else is as lonely and awkward as you are these days. A lot of people are probably hoping someone would ask them to hang out, but aren't confidant enough to broach the subject.

Doesn't have to be anything complicated. Just "Hey, we've had some great conversations, would you like to do X this weekend?" It's gonna feel awkward, but the potential pay off is great.
