Former President Donald Trump will promote the use of the death penalty as a major part of his 2024 presidential campaign, pushing for the execution of individuals convicted of non-capital crimes and the implementation of old and brutal means of killing them.
...
It'll probably play really well to a good portion of his base, but otherwise it ranges from pretty weak to abhorrent.
The guillotine is ours, they can't take it :blob-stabby:
I think a bunch of the more "brutal" execution methods are theoretically more humane than the current lethal injections. Obviously this is a terrible hill to die on, but the guillotine should, if used correctly, be effectively painless.
Anyway, this isn't going to happen bc if people actually have to see the blood and stuff they'll be more likely to oppose the death penalty.
It's kind of weird that the guillotine was phased out in favor of these cockamamie rube goldberg contraptions like gas chambers or electric chairs. Is it just because there is some weird aversion to causing bleeding or gore... while you're *executing * someone?
Lmao is trump going to get elected to create the running man
Smart move, the delusional collective impotence his base feels tends to lead to increase levels of media psychosis
Death plays to both the old school conservatives who are weirded out by the obsessive anti-woke memes and the new age groypers who want to "execute the pedos"
this will freak out normies, it would be an extremely silly footgun
I don't know, I've mentioned to people before that execution actually costs more than life in prison. The response is that executions should involve fewer appeals, take less time, and should be much simpler methods like gunshot to the head.
These might be reactionaries though

That and dead people can't make shoes for Nike.
This is probably one of the reasons why state executions have slowed down over the past decades. Corpses aren't good slaves. It probably also doesn't help that areas around prisons end up footing hire property taxes if they're a prison that does execution. Higher property taxes to pay for executions that can often exceed $1 million.

I'd agree with this, if there was a simple way to execute somebody. I also don't agree with executing anyone tbh, but even setting that aside, all of the existing methods suck ass. Hangings don't always break your neck so sometimes you just get choked to death, which sucks. Guillotines and headsmen don't always get a clean cut. A gun to the head can fail in a wide variety of awful ways. Firing squad might be a sort of best of both worlds as guns are concerned, unless I'm misunderstanding how firing squads work.
Not to mention the harm inflicted on the executioners. Murdering helpless people is the kind of behavior which can never be psychologically healthy.
But that's what I was gonna campaign on when I run for city council!
:pit:
Trump, we are not the same.
AAAAA NO DON'T MAKE THE GUILLOTINE UNCOOL!
