Secret World is a dying mmo with a cool (albeit unfinished) story and cooler puzzles. It is set in an urban fantasy world where magic is real and most every conspiracy theory is true in some fashion. Working for one of the big three - the Templars, the Illuminati, and the Dragon - the player character is tasked with investigating and containing occult disasters across the world. Wish it wasn't dying but good thing is you don't need to play it as an mmo to experience the story content. Hope you know morse code.
Oh shit, I was really into this game for a bit after it released but nobody I knew got into it and so I got lonely and moved onto other games
Sucks that it's dying, I remember it being very interesting storywise
Yeah it was a lot of fun but impossible to play single player and I could never find any people to create a squad with :(
Then I have good news for you, the new Secret World is way easier (enemy HPs isn't balanced for parties anymore). So you can definitely SP it.
It's a great game. If your thing is more singleplayer, check out Tornquist's other games Draugen and The Longest Journey series. The first of The Longest Journey series is possibly the best point and click adventure ever made (Yes, better than [insert lucasarts adventure here]) and should give you serious Disco Elysium vibee.

Do come back to me with your impressions if you do. If I were to sell it I'd say that puzzle (investigative) missions are really good, the story and world are fun, but the combat is garbage. Don't mind the tutorial, it was made after re-release and the puzzle missions are quite a bit better than that.

The Templars were probably full of deus vault losers back in its prime and the Illuminati are just straight up evil if the canon is based on even remotely decent research
If there's one thing the overall story slowly makes clear is that your bosses are not good people. They are at the head of ancient immortal organizations that seek world domination, with more than their share of skeletons in the closet. The Illuminati are the most obviously evil and the first person you meet literally says 'the United States became a superpower off of the Illuminati becoming the supervillain'. So you're not far off.
I ended up picking them because they are the funniest.
