I just keep thinking of Atlanta whenever I see these diversity organizations. Unless they’re explicitly anti capitalist, I just assume they’re liberals enriching themselves with white people’s money while doing nothing to improve POC’s lives

The show. There’s an episode where they had to dưa with a diversity group and it was just basically fake jobs

if it's the one i'm thinking of, that is an incredible episode. where the diversity committee basically just shakes down the megarich fashion company for straight up cash after a colossal fuck-up to host a press conference on their behalf and say they are doing the right thing now.

the B plot of darius with the nigerian rice place getting shutdown by the self-absorbed gentrifier was probably the most brutal arc. like i laughed at how exacting it was, but i also felt sick because you know darius felt like it was all his fault for asking for jolloff rice in the first place.

It appears to be a Quaker organization, yes.

Why would any "progressive" org (which appear to just be at most libs) associate with someone like this? I have to assume they just did no real vetting at all, even without falsifying her claimed ethnic background which is obviously fucked, she's an obvious grifter. Playing a "moderate Muslim" for conservative broadcasts, Glenn Beck, NewsMax, the Clarion production she's allegedly featured in... There's no way even a cursory background check wouldn't find that stuff.

As someone who was raised Quaker (religious society of friends) outside of philly and did a ton of volunteering as a high school kid with AFSC...this sucks. I dont know much about the organization any more and my own politics have moved away from pacifism. However- these are generally well meaning folks who are deeply anti-authoritarian and it's a bummer to see them in this situation. I think a ton about this is laughable and ridiculous- my honest intention here is simply to try and impress upon folks that Quakers look dumb as hell from this article, and they are pretty solid people generally(east coast quakers at least...mid west gets pretty 'it is only through the blood of christ that you shall be redeemed' style stuff)- regularly arrested by local PDs; spied on by the feds; do not accept hierarchy; believe that all humans have the same access to the divine; totally anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist ideology; almost any quaker under 60 is just like a spiritual an-com... I dont know why I needed/wanted to say all that...

Impact vs. Intent. Good Intentions are simply irrelevant. What matters is the harm caused to marginalized communities.

“I’m German and British, and her father was Calabrese Italian,” her mother added. “She’s chosen to live a lie, and I find that very, very sad.”

There’s a very recent millennials are killing capitalism where the AFS(C?) plays a pretty prominent role (the “Stayed on Freedom” 4-part interview with Zoharah and Michael Simmons/Dan Berger).

I just started the 4th part, which talks about the AFS pretty early in the ep. Didn’t make it very far into that part yet tho
