"Tankie" is going to eventually be the next "woke". Tucker Carlson is going to start calling AOC and Omar tankies, it's going to spread to all Democrats, and then libs will start making memes like "Yeah, I'm a tankie, this is pretty badass" with photos of Sherman tanks.

It’s meant to lump together progressive liberals, socdems, reformists, and people who are sympathetic to communism but not communists themselves. IIRC, it was originally used to refer to FDR, Henry Wallace and other left-wing members of the Democratic Party by anti-New Dealers. The insinuation being that while they weren’t fully red, they were “close enough” or in denial.
By the Nixon days, it mutated to accuse anyone of being “too soft” on Communism, even Milquetoast liberals who are still vocally anticommunist themselves.
Naturally, a fully-dyed Red would/should object to the label. Same as “liberal”.
I have a friend who posts on a reactionary Chinese-speaking message board for finance and tech bros. Apparently, they use a term like "pink" as a pejorative for leftys also.
The Doomsday Clock for someone calling Biden a tankie is now five minutes to midnight

:tankie:
Tankie is more like the new "commie" or "pinko".

Does "pinko" have a different meaning or history or something?

There was that time Breitbart called Mike Bloomberg a Maoist
Mike prefers the term, Combat Liberal
Good post!
Boris Johnson has already gone on record calling Ed Miliband and Gordon Brown tankies
Literally just doing a solid bit but not as a bit :agony-minion:
Seeing as how the term originated in bri'ain and Boris is an old bri'ish fart, he probably didn't pick it up from recent day internet poisoning though
