    i think the assertion that the internet video game reviewer prompted a sea-change in the popular meaning of a word needs a bit more defence than this

    I'm not going to try to prove it in a laboratory environment. Even proving "PC Master Race" as a concept not really showing up until Yahtzee said it once in a video would be nearly impossible that way.

    All I can say is that I didn't see "entitled" being used that way, anywhere, until after the anti-backlash backlash.

    i dont have the time to go digging through william buckley jr’s backlog but it beggars disbelief that conservatives wouldn’t think to slander the word being used for social programs they’ve been pissed off about since the 30s until the gamer man told them to

    "Entitlement" being derided as a concept is one thing, but "entitled" being a shorthand adjective for "ungrateful poor that is getting uppity" is a relatively new use case.

    Before that it was :freedom-and-democracy: "welfare queen" talk.
