“Next year, America goes to the polls. Donald Trump is running for president while under criminal indictment,” interviewer Beth Rigby said. “This, the man who back in 2016 consistently accused you of law-breaking and actively encouraged chats of ‘lock her up,’ directed at you. It’s pretty ironic, isn’t it, that he’s now a former president that could face a jail term. How does it make you feel?”

The concentration camps for the poors (and trans people, and Muslims, and :us-foreign-policy: and "wokes" and...) would follow that brief spark of hilarity. I'm no longer in the mood to laugh about it.

I literally said it's going to get worse. It is getting worse anyway. We're not living under an administration where all of the things you are worried about did not already get materially worse. Trump wins, it gets worse. Neolib Dem, biden or other wins, it gets worse. There's no "if we elect the Democrat it won't get so bad" path here and Im astounded that after all I know you've witnessed and all I've seen you post your opinion still flips back to that position anyway

It's a tiresome false equivalence, and yes, fatalism, to claim that a horrible administration is already rock bottom and nothing can, will, or even could change for the worse. It didn't help that it started in a condescending "buddy, dawg" dunk.

Believe what you will, but I'm done with this reply chain.

I'm not your buddy, pal, and I'm not your pal, friend!
I dunno though. Maybe Biden or Clinton would do all the same bad things but more slowly and less openly. Or maybe they would just be more competent and therefore worse. If Trump wins then certain people might feel like now is the time to ramp up the fascism. Or maybe Trump loosing would actually cause a much more destructive backlash. So while I get the desperate want to have some kind of harm reduction I feel very pessimistic and I don't want to just shrug and say fatalism is the answer but the idea that a Clinton or Biden would be better angers me.

We're all scared and unsure of how things will pan out so if I'm wrong or a dork I don't mind discussing it but I don't wanna be mean to people on here since we're pretty much all on the same side (except for the cat thing).

        Yeah it's not great.

On the other hand Clinton would probably do more damage outside the US (She'd invade Atlantis for oil if she thought it existed.) Trump's one silver lining was his ineffectual flailing at Foreign Policy.

I think US citizens should absolutely not hope for a Trump win, or think there's no difference. But really it's a dark choice if we do get Hillary vs Trump.

      https://www.lennyletter.com/story/hillary-clinton-is-more-than-a-president

When people told me they hated Hillary Clinton or (far worse) that they were "not fans," I wish I had said in no uncertain terms: "I love Hillary Clinton. I am in awe of her. I am set free by her. She will be the finest world leader our galaxy has ever seen."

I wish, in those exchanges, I had not asked gentle, tolerant questions about a hater's ridiculous allergy to her, or Clinton's fictional misdeeds and imagined character flaws. More deeply still, I wish I had not reasoned with anyone, patiently countered their ludicrous emotionalism and psychologically disturbed theories. I wish I had said, flatly, "I love her." As if I had been asked about my mother or daughter.

I want to reverse the usual schedule of things, then. We don't have to wait until she dies to act. Hillary Clinton's name belongs on ships, and airports, and tattoos. She deserves straight-up hagiographies and a sold-out Broadway show called RODHAM. Yes, this cultural canonization is going to come after the chronic, constant, nonstop "On the other hand" sexist hedging around her legacy. But such is the courage of Hillary Clinton and her supporters; we reverse patriarchal orders. Maybe she is more than a president. Maybe she is an idea, a world-historical heroine, light itself. The presidency is too small for her. She belongs to a much more elite class of Americans, the more-than-presidents. Neil Armstrong, Martin Luther King Jr., Alexander Fucking Hamilton.

I wonder what the phrase "I am set free by her" means to this freak. That sounds like a quote from a serial killer film. Scrawled across a wall in blood.

Trump is a businessman he knows his base loves words and ignores actions. So he will say shit like “I’ll round up the homeless” or “the wall will be built by Mexico” knowing damn well it won’t happen and that his base won’t care.

That's a nice idea but the federal government will utterly crush them. The feds are incredibly well-armed and have all our communications tapped. Such an insurrection would be stopped as soon as it started, with all the governors arrested or drone striked.

American war veterans who are very familiar with the high successful tactics of Iraqi and Afghani insurgents,

Oh come on. These insurgents died like flies. The k/d ration was something like 50:1. Chuds don't have the stones for that. Not when the Xbox is calling. And how about the football pool? Or that fishing boat they've got to get out on the lake?

with all the governors arrested or drone striked.

As if that wouldn’t cause even more tension? That would be a complete undoing of our state vs federal system, basically a constitutional crisis.

But before that, how much of the military do you really think is going to be loyal to Hillary Clinton? It would be a proper civil war, not a quickly crushed insurrection.

Biden has been purging the military like a muthafucka. The rightwing nutjobs are mostly out of a job by now. The rest are getting DEI instruction every day. Take heart, the military isn't what it once was.

Drawing the fascists out and making them strike is exactly the outcome that would be the best. They'd be crushed under the weight of sedition and treason laws and they'd fill the prisons for the next 40 years. Let's see them work for 25 cents an hour and eat disgusting food left over from Iraq 2003.

They purged a lot of them with the covid vax requirement and the mandatory stand-downs for DEI training. Plus, they're having a recruitment crisis. Right-wingers are telling young men not to join. It's surreal, it sounds like what the 60s radicals were saying about the military.

Unfortunately, there are just enough savvy agents among the DNC to recognize her running could revitalize the left

Biden isn't useful to the dems because he barely beat Trump, he's vital because he indirectly annihilated the nascent leftwing of America, broke it into a million pieces and secured neoliberal dominance of oppositional politics for another decade at least

Doesn't matter how much of a lich he becomes, you don't throw away an asset like that, even if Trump wins
