I mean hopefully it can be delayed by a year or two until I can get SRS and move to Seattle and integrate into some leftist networks. But we're all just stuck in this limbo of waiting for the evil empire to implode and it's still tottering along, smashing thousands of lives daily. I'm not romanticizing the Cool Zone, I'm just tired of being kept on the edge - waiting, waiting. Let's just get it the fuck over with

    If it weren't for imminent catastrophic climate change, I'd agree. But the forecasts for the next decade are horrific, and American agencies at federal, state, and municipal levels are increasingly being legally constrained from planning for climate change by politicians and their financial backers. A few bad years of infrastructure-destroying storms and preliminary steps to balkanization (especially the phenomenon that Chris Hedges calls "sacrifice zones") could really ramp up faster than expected.

    Post-Suez Britain didn't have imminent climate change to deal with, and they had their ideological cousins in the USA to support them. The modern USA has climate disaster on the horizon, and have spent the past 20 years pissing off the world's rising powers.
