Reminds me of how the libertarian FDP won among the first time voters in the 2021 election. One of the possible reasons given is that some of the bigger German :freeze-gamer: streamers are cryptobros lmao.
Hilariously, the FDP's voterbase drops sharpy with age [18-24: 21% | 25-34: 15% | 35-44 & 45-54: 12% | 60-69: 9% | 70+: 8%] with the 60+ category actually decreasing in vote share from 2017.
Of course, that's also related to the boomers being more traditionalist right wingers than reddit-style brainwormed. The Conservative party got 10% among 18-24 people and 38% among the 70+. Interestingly, the socdems too. 15% for 18-24 and 35% for 70+, while 34-44 is the prime age to be a mask off fascist apparently, as that's the largest vote share for the AfD. The left is strongest among the youth, as there's many radlibs, but beyond that the vote share among people of working age is fairly consistent(ly low)
Tbf if we're comparing to US politics, most of the FDP would probably fall in line with the Democrats (tho the more right-wing wing probably), tho I could maybe see some falling with the "moderate" type Republicans. Well same for the CDU I guess
I think I'd say they would be the kind of people who in US politics say "I'm socially liberal, but fiscally conservative". They are usually alright at stuff like cannabis legalization or LGBT rights, but are awful on everything else.
They are this kind of peoples, also the „I am going to be my own manger“ girlboss wolf-of-wall-street zoomer person.
I mean a lot of “fiscally conservatives” in Germany would also probably be considered socdem types in the US. Afaik they, like pretty much everyone in Germany, support keeping stuff like keeping universal healthcare and free tuition? Plus they’re in a coalition with the SDP
