“In simple terms, Urtopia has integrated ChatGPT into its e-bike to provide voice interaction with the rider. For example, a rider can ask the e-bike how to change a flat tire, or for directions to a local bike shop that could do it for them. “

For example, a rider can ask the e-bike how to change a flat tire, or for directions to a local bike shop that could do it for them.

ChatGPT doesn't know directions it just mimics what directions look like, you ask it to tell you how to get somewhere and it's just gonna hallucinate a journey for you.

        1. Begin your journey at the stone monument, where time is whispered by the sighing winds.

        2. Follow the shadowy path north, walking for a distance measured not in miles but in faint murmurings of the somber oaks.

        3. When you pass by the third Hemlock, look for a path bathed in otherworldly twilight gloom. This path is sheltered by the Veil of Lace - a grotesque overhang of thin, fibrous fungi that pulsates with a sickly light.

        4. Pause and take a moment to breathe. Now begin assembling your bicycle.

I could get behind this. The world lost a lot when leprechauns stopped disguising themselves as old peasants to tell riddles to passing travelers. I want my bicycle to spirit me away to a meeting with an unassuming swamp witch who turns out to be a time goddess

i wonder if old people just liked sending travelers to their death, the blaming the 'fair folk' when confronted about it...

I haven't read the article but surely they have their own training data they've optimized this thing on? And I know ChatGPT API rolled out a couple months ago so I'd assume they have it talking with Google Maps or something. If I'm wrong then holy shit, relying on people to just not ask their talking bike for directions is a hell of a risk...

The real answer is that some executive who has never seen a bike in person heard that ChatGPT and AI is the Next Big Thing, so they went to a meeting and said "We need to integrate AI into our products" and all the employees who actually work in the field sighed, rolled their eyes and tried to make the least idiotic result possible.

You can't begin to imagine how dumb these people are.

Yelling frantically about how I’ve just been run over and shot by a pickup truck driver, and ChatGPT replies with some moralizing shit about how such a scenario is dangerous and shouldn’t be joked about because road rage is a very serious issue

Sometimes I don't want to say "hey google" to the device already in my pocket while riding my bike. It might give me dozens of visual and text guides to changing a tyre or a map directing me to a bike shop. What if I could instead say "hey google" to my bike and get a worse version of the same thing from a robot trapped in a nightmare that recombines words from google results?

Goddammit, I was interested in this bike too. I've wanted an e-bike that's lightweight and has a belt-drive. This checked nearly every box but I knew something was up. Their whole site reeks of tech-bro.

Me neither, but it goes 40km/h and it only weighs 15kg. I go up and down stairs, so the weight's important to me. I haven't found anything else that's comparable that's also belt driven. Every e-bike seems like a compromise. I'm hoping soon there will be more standardization regarding features in the industry, so I could just put my own ebike together.

Yeah the range of ebikes out there is fucking wack. I have no idea who they're being marketed to exactly because you'd think there'd be like 5-6 obvious use-cases for ebikes and outside maybe urban delivery cargo bikes, makers don't seem to cater to any of them very well.

There's like 18 different, 1-2mm spaced standards for seatposts for some reason, the bike industry is absolutely fucking garbage at standardization

Design seems very "inspired" from Urwahn who have been 3D-Printing Steel bikes with frames like this for a few years now.

Steel 3D printing is a thing? Like, a good idea? I've only seen it as welding fillings, which is surely a different thing

Dunno if it's a good idea but I've not heard of them breaking frames or anything.

Hella expensive, for sure. Their main claim is ride quality where the frame absorbs a lot more shock due to construction acting sort of like a spring in itself. Couldn't tell you how true it is but like "steel is sort of flexy" and "steel bent at those angles would absorb shocks" checks out from a laymans view at least.

Lmao seatposts really need to be tailor made, look at this

              Show

Tailormade for the buyer I mean

Love to buy an expensive vehicle I can't share with friends nor other members of my family cuz human height is variable

Nah, that's just a light skin seatpost, they don't make those in house. Those come in 25,4mm, 27,2mm and 31,6mm and 350mm to 400mm (only largest one).

It's not a bog standard part but it wouldn't be hard to find a replacement, those are fairly common measurements.
