If the PRC were really that interested in y*nks' personal data for some nefarious design, it is quite obvious The Zuckbot would have no qualms whatsoever about selling it to them, anyway.

Not even foreign entities, I keep having to ask people why they're afraid of their Alexa become a government spy thing when it's already an Amazon spy thing.

And so the the consolidation of wealth and power into a select few mega corporations continues. The US government is designed to serve the wealthy and corporate interests, not the people.

It's disgusting that the US can just for e China to do something like that. They just took it via strong-arming: give it to us for an okay deal, or lose a bunch of money when we ban it. I can't believe that worked.

Even if tik Tok is ultimately a shiny thing, I wish that they wouldn't capitulate. If they can moderate the twerking children and groomers, then any entertainment is better than getting it from formulaic disney shit. I'm also upset that a government can just ban people from using software or consuming media in general.

I'm surprised Wal-mart is part of the deal. The original deal was just Oracle and ByteDance. Surely, someone within the Trump administration/higher-ups is linked to the Waltons?

Well, that doesn't negate what I said: I'm still surprised Wal-mart is part of the deal. Byte-dance told them and MS "lol no" when Oracle was the original sale announcement buyer.

The whole thing is fucking hilarious.
Like, if you wrote some kind of clandestine spy novel plot about this shit, it would be about how the NSA or something was seizing control of this popular internet app from the Chinese MSS, ostensibly to 'prevent Chinese subterfuge' but really to allow them to spy on and subvert their own public.
But in collapitalism, it's Walmart seizing it from Bytedance, and instead of being forced by the US government to give them a backdoor or something, they're the ones asking them to do it because it's ultimately good for their bottom line.
