A coup in Niger booted the western aligned president. Now the francophone african nations that are still de facto french colonies seem to be uniting in to an anti-france, anti-west bloc to try to kick the french out of africa once and for all.
Apparently niger produces 1/3 of the uranium france consumes, so niger might have leverage on france. The french and us are already making invasion and counter-coup noises but there's a chance nato is already so strained by the ukraine war and warmongering elsewhere in the world they'll have limited options.
