I've been seeing a huge amount of anti-Chinese sentiment online, from obvious places like reddit, to even misinformed friends on social media falling victim to viral posts filled with misinformation.

What are we to make of this? Is this the slow march to war, by portraying them as pure evil, à la the fake story of Iraqi soldiers killing Kuwaiti babies to help get the public on board with our military response? It seems disadvantageous for the US and their allies to fight China, as we are incredibly reliant upon them economically and don't stand to gain much from the conflict.

Are these the irrational decisions of a dying empire? Or is there something else at play?

Tibet? That one sailed decades ago.

Xinjiang? That one’s been shut down too.

Sanctions-based is one approach, but won’t be comprehensive.

Most likely, they’ll try to flip or destroy key allies. Think the Bolivian coup.

The biggest chance of a hot war is in the South China Sea. It’s a multi-party territorial dispute, with big guns, and the USA involved. It has the potential to be a Cuban Missile Crisis 2.0.

What about Iran? China's been getting a bit closer with them lately and the US already has separatist movements on payroll all over that region.

Oh yeah, that could turn hot, and it’d be a proxy war.

Right now though, the USA is more than happy to sanction Iran and hope it gets brought down from the inside. In the Iranian situation, the US is secure enough, and Iran is on the decline. (Except for nukes. But Israel’s doing its best to check Iran there without a full war.)
