I think what happened is pewdiepie was unpopular with the 20s crowd in the early-mid part of the last decade and so he was accordingly unpopular with reddit but then as the 20s became 30s and fell out of reddit into other spaces/life they were replaced by younger people who grew up on pewdiepie and always liked him, so it's really just generational turnover more than anything
