Unions hold a considerable amount of economic power and overwhelmingly support MAS. Also there are armed militias. I think an uprising is within the realm of possibility.
The issue is santa cruz and the old capital (not La Paz, the other one) it's why the opposition is struggling, one of the far right leaders has a regional power bastion that tried to secede in 2008 and now he wont step aside for the pre morales guy.
